Natural beauty? Makeup? Confidence?
So what is beauty?

When I was on my way heading back to my college, I heard a conversation between a group of student in the bus

“Makeup will make me beautiful”
“Natural beauty is when you not wearing any makeup”

There are two opinions that I heard from their conversation.
It makes me think.........

“What is the meaning of beauty? What make people can give judgement and specification of beauty? Should we wear a makeup? Should we wear new cloth?
People that have this kind of height, size of eye, kind of color skin and so on that make people agree that he/she is beautiful.

This conversation revised me about the topic that I have learned during my Design Aesthetic class. My lecturer, Dr Tan taught about what is beauty and what is ugly. He said that when there is no beauty, then it became ugly. What make the comparison between these two conditions happen?

Dr Tan said that one of famous Chinese philosopher, Lou Tze had quote about beauty.
In Lou Tze quote, he described

“When people see some things as beautiful,other things become ugly.When people see some things as good,other things become bad.”

Back to the conversation about makeup and beauty, its make me feel curious. If you are not beautiful, then wear a makeup to highlight and enlighten the x factor. But, if you are beautiful, then why you should wear a makeup. Is that when you are wearing makeup will make u confidence, or you are confidence to wear a makeup. It is because sometime, there are some people that have lack of confidence about their appearance, that this is the reason why they wear a makeup. Vice versa, some people are not confidence to wear a makeup because they feel not comfortable when wearing a makeup.

The question is..... 

WHAT IS BEAUTY? WHY PEOPLE WANT TO BE BEAUTIFUL? IS THAT BEAUTIFUL MAKE PEOPLE FEEL CONFIDENCE? IF ALL PEOPLE WANT TO BE BEAUTIFUL, THEN HOW TO DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN BEAUTIFUL AND UGLY?

These question make me feel curious to learn more about design aesthetic and how to appreciate the effort to make something beautiful.

PRINCIPLE OF PLEASURE IN DESIGN Before start the class, Dr. Tan reminds about project proposal that should be done in google docs. The project proposal is the report based on the rubric result. (Unfold the beauty of Tanjung Malim assignment). Dr. Tan also reminds about mid-term quiz. Today, Dr. Tan teach about PRINCIPLE OF PLEASURE IN DESIGN - Occurs when human beings achieve their aims by altering or changing subjective world. - This principle is suggested by Paul Hekkert on 2016 Paulus Petrus Maria Hekkert  is a Dutch professor  shape theory  at the  Faculty of  Industrial Design  Delft University of Technology.  As head of the Design Aesthetics section he investigates sensory perception and emotional experience of products.
